MESSAGE FROM THE GUARDIANS’ PRESIDENT – RICHARD BENDER
I do not need to remind you of today’s difficult economic times. The LA Jewish Home is not immune from current economic downturn, and is doing all it can to insure that the residents continue to receive the highest quality of living the Home has always provided. Due to a down year in fund raising, the Home may very well need to reduce their budgets even further, and the quality of the residents’ lives will suffer.
There comes a point when the cut backs begin to impair the quality of life.
Please support our Home’s residents with The Guardians’ annual Adopt-A-Parent campaign. This annual campaign allows the Home to continue to provide the quality of care our Jewish elderly deserve and that cannot be provided using state funds alone. With your assistance we can continue to play an important part in the lives of our residents.
Please help The Guardians to raise the funds needed to prevent this from happening. Scroll down and select the appropriate giving level for you!

In addition to membership The Guardians annually conduct a fundraising campaign, Adopt A Parent, for continuing support of the Jewish Home. These funds are used to afford the “Margin of Excellence” that marks the essential differences between the Home and other providers of elderly residential care. Several examples are:
- The average age at the LA Jewish Home is 90 – nationally it is 84
- The average length of stay at the LA Jewish Home is 7 years – nationally it is 2.5 years
- The average hours per day of nursing care at the LA Jewish Home is 4.3 hours per day vs. 3.2 hours per day at our homes in California
- Kosher Meals Over 912k meals served annually
- Full time employed Rabbi
- Security for both campuses 24/7
- A full array of services from independent living to hospice care
- The Home’s full time medical staff of six physicians and nurse practitioners
- Over 22,000 activities for the residents each year – 60 daily
Birthday celebrations, concerts, exercise classes, holiday and spiritual services, lectures and tours and outings to name a few.
The Home is at the center of our community’s efforts to provide our elderly with the blessing of physical, mental and spiritual well being, regardless of their ability to pay. This Margin of Excellence costs $39 per day per resident. That comes to $273 per week or $1,170 for a whole month for one resident.
From now until August 31st, 2010 (the end of our fiscal year) we have a goal of raising $350,000 to help the Home’s elderly residents. We have reached 90% of our goal would you please join me in achieving our mission!
Please select the appropriate giving level and help The Guardians continue to support the Home!
