Happy Passover to all the Guardian members and friends of The Guardians.
The Guardians of the Jewish Home for the Aging represent the very best of the many caring and charitable members of the Los Angeles community. We follow the Fifth Commandment by honoring our mothers and fathers and making certain that we, as a Jewish community, provide the finest care and physical environment possible for our seniors.
The Guardians recently celebrated their 70th anniversary with a wild 70’s bash at Sony Studios Atrium. By any standard, this was a great event, and we were able to raise $400,000. What a super event and a fabulous fundraiser. The effort was chaired by many members who worked hard to make it a success.
I hope everyone saw how much our members were involved in “the moment,” and most dressed up in the styles of the 70’s to promote the event. Go out of your way to see The Guardian magazine with all its great pictures which depict the excitement of the evening.
The first six months of my presidency have been very enjoyable and successful. We have a long way to go to meet our goal of raising more than we raised the previous year. Ahead of us on the Guardian agenda is the Golf Tournament on June 1 and some other events still under consideration. We are also still in the midst of the 70th Anniversary Campaign to raise 5-year pledges from our membership and supporters. I am hopeful that we will exceed our campaign goal of $4 million, as there are currently pledges totaling in excess of $3 million.
Many of us have been watching the John Adams TV series. My wife (Bari) and I are on our way to see firsthand that part of the country and our roots (just kidding). It was clear that without the total community support, our little fledgling country could not have survived. Similarly, without your comments, ideas, and financial commitments, The Guardians could not be as successful. Please call me with ideas you may have for future events and fundraisers to help support the Jewish Home. And while you are at it, please join us and become a dues-paying member of this great organization.
Let’s all remember that there is no successful Jewish community in the US without a strong Jewish Home committed to our seniors. So please keep us firmly in mind when considering your charitable commitments.
Love to all,
Steve Good
P.S. Hold your family close to you in these troubling times, and remember Passover is truly a family holiday.
